What is Church of England Scandal?

Church of England continues to come under heavy fire for its handling of allegations of abuse against clergy members. A BBC report into the Church’s handling of accusations against Blackburn priest Andrew Hindley revealed pervasive and ongoing shortcomings in the child protection system. After Canon Hindley was determined to pose a risk to kids and teens, a covert six-figure payment was made to him.

The priest wasn’t ever charged with a crime and has been the subject of five police inquiries, notably ones into accusations of sexual assault. The priest denies any misconduct or criminal behavior. The Church hired child protection specialists to conduct risk assessments since it was unable to depend on criminal proceedings. It concluded that Canon Hindley might endanger kids and teenagers.
